Enerpac air hydraulic pumps use compressed air to generate hydraulic pressure for cylinders, tools and other industrial hydraulic applications. They are a practical hydraulic power source when compressed air is available and electric or battery-powered operation is not required.
BuyEnerpac carries Enerpac air-powered hydraulic equipment ranging from compact foot-operated pumps to higher-flow industrial pump systems, Z-Class air pumps and specialized ultra-high-pressure pumps. Selecting the correct model depends on the hydraulic circuit, required pressure and oil flow, usable oil capacity, valve configuration and available compressed-air supply.
Choose the Right Enerpac Air Hydraulic Pump
The correct air hydraulic pump should be selected according to the cylinder or hydraulic tool being powered rather than maximum pressure alone. Important considerations include whether the system is single-acting or double-acting, required cylinder speed, total oil volume, valve operation and control method.
Enerpac offers several air-powered hydraulic pump families designed for different operating requirements:
- Enerpac Turbo II Air Hydraulic Pumps – compact air-powered pumps available with several control and valve configurations for hydraulic cylinders and workholding systems.
- PA Series Air Hydraulic Pumps – compact treadle-operated pumps for single-acting hydraulic applications.
- PAM Series Air Hydraulic Pumps – twin-air-motor pumps available for both single-acting and double-acting cylinders.
- ZA4 Series Air Hydraulic Pumps – modular Z-Class air pumps offering higher hydraulic flow, multiple reservoir capacities and several valve configurations.
- ZA4T Air-Driven Torque Wrench Pumps – dedicated air-powered pump configurations for compatible hydraulic torque wrenches and bolting applications.
- XA Series Air Driven Hydraulic Foot Pumps – foot-controlled air hydraulic pumps available for single-acting and double-acting cylinders.
Air Hydraulic Pump Selection Factors
Before selecting an air hydraulic pump, compare the requirements of the hydraulic system with the specifications of the individual pump.
- Maximum hydraulic pressure: Match the pump pressure rating to the cylinder, tool, hose, couplers and other components in the hydraulic system.
- Oil flow: Hydraulic flow directly affects how quickly a connected cylinder or tool operates.
- Usable oil capacity: The pump must provide sufficient hydraulic oil for the required cylinder stroke and total system volume.
- Valve configuration: Select the valve arrangement required for advance, hold and retract operation.
- Single-acting or double-acting operation: Match the pump and valve configuration to the type of cylinder or hydraulic device being operated.
- Compressed-air supply: Confirm that the available air system meets the pressure and flow requirements of the selected pump.
- Control method: Enerpac air pumps are available with foot, manual, remote and other control arrangements depending on the pump family.
Ultra-High-Pressure Air Hydraulic Pumps
For hydraulic bolt tensioning and other applications requiring substantially more pressure than conventional 10,000 psi hydraulic systems, Enerpac also offers the ATP1500 ultra-high-pressure air hydraulic pump. The ATP1500 is an air-driven pump designed for hydraulic systems requiring pressures up to 21,750 psi.
Because the ATP1500 operates at substantially higher pressure than conventional industrial hydraulic pumps, it must be used with hydraulic components, fittings, couplers and hoses rated for the required operating pressure.
Air Hydraulic Pumps vs. Hydraulic Boosters
Not every air-powered hydraulic device operates like a conventional hydraulic pump. Enerpac also offers AHB Series Air Hydraulic Boosters and B Series Air Hydraulic Boosters.
Hydraulic boosters use compressed air acting on a larger air piston to generate higher hydraulic pressure through a smaller hydraulic plunger. These systems are commonly used in production, clamping and other applications where the booster architecture is appropriate for the hydraulic circuit.
