Enerpac hydraulic swing clamp cylinders provide automated clamping for machining fixtures, production tooling, assembly systems, and other workholding applications. The clamping arm swings away from the workpiece during loading and unloading, then rotates into position and applies hydraulic clamping force during the machining or production cycle.
This collection includes Enerpac Collet-Lok swing cylinders along with conventional and three-position swing-cylinder configurations. Available designs include flange-mounted and threaded-body models, left- and right-turning configurations, and non-rotating versions for specialized workholding applications.
How Hydraulic Swing Clamp Cylinders Work
A hydraulic swing clamp combines rotational movement with a vertical clamping stroke. During operation, the clamp arm rotates into position above the workpiece and then moves downward to apply clamping force. When released, the arm lifts and swings away, providing clear access for loading, unloading, machining, or assembly.
This movement makes swing clamps particularly useful in production fixtures where unobstructed access to the workpiece is important. Multiple clamps can also be incorporated into a hydraulic workholding system to provide repeatable clamping at several points around a component.
Enerpac Collet-Lok Swing Cylinders
Enerpac Collet-Lok swing cylinders combine hydraulic actuation with a mechanical locking mechanism. After the workpiece is clamped, the Collet-Lok mechanism mechanically maintains the clamping force so continuous hydraulic pressure is not required to keep the component secured.
These cylinders are available in flange-mounted and threaded-body configurations. Depending on the model, left-turning, right-turning, and non-rotating versions are available to accommodate different fixture layouts and clamping requirements.
Three-Position Swing Cylinders
Enerpac three-position swing cylinders provide an additional positioning capability for applications requiring more control over the clamp arm's movement. These cylinders can be useful in automated fixtures where the arm needs to move between multiple defined positions during loading, clamping, and machining operations.
Choosing a Hydraulic Swing Clamp Cylinder
Start by determining the clamping force required to hold the workpiece securely during the manufacturing process. Then consider the available mounting space, required clamp-arm movement, swing direction, mounting style, stroke, operating pressure, and hydraulic circuit requirements.
The direction of rotation is especially important when multiple clamps are installed around the same workpiece. Select left- or right-turning models based on the fixture layout so the clamp arms clear the workpiece, tooling, and other fixture components during loading and unloading.
Mounting method should also be considered early in the fixture design. Flange-mounted swing cylinders provide a straightforward mounting arrangement, while threaded-body cylinders can be incorporated directly into compact fixtures where installation space is limited.
