Genuine Enerpac and Simplex repair parts for hydraulic cylinders, from plungers, stop rings and saddles to return springs, wipers and seals. Not sure it fits? Send us your cylinder's model number and we will confirm the part before it ships.
Common cylinder parts and what they do
Most cylinder repairs come down to a handful of parts. The notes below come from Enerpac's description of its RC-TRIO general purpose cylinder, the current version of the RC Series.
| Part | What it does | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Plunger | The piston rod that extends to move the load. RC-TRIO plungers are high-strength, nickel-plated steel with internal threads for fixturing. | Scoring, pitting, bends or damaged threads |
| Stop ring | Stops the plunger at full stroke. On RC-TRIO cylinders it is capable of taking full cylinder extension force and carries a wiper. | Wear, damage or a missing wiper |
| Wiper ring | Helps keep contamination out of the cylinder as the plunger retracts. | Cracks, tears or dirt getting past it |
| Saddle | The hardened saddle protects the plunger end during lifting and removes for access to the plunger threads. Tilt saddles are available as accessories. | Mushrooming, cracks or a loose fit |
| Return spring | Retracts single-acting, spring-return cylinders. Enerpac says the RC-TRIO spring removes without special tools. | Slow or incomplete retraction |
| Wear bands and bearings | Support the plunger against side load. RC-TRIO cylinders use up to 4 wear bands. | Uneven wear or side-to-side play |
| Seals, U-cups and O-rings | Hold pressure inside the cylinder. | External leaks or a cylinder that will not hold a load |
| Thread protector | Covers exposed threads when the cylinder is not in use. | Missing or damaged |
Replacing seals? A complete kit is usually the simpler order. See Hydraulic Cylinder Seal Kits and Hydraulic Cylinder Repair Kits.
Which cylinder do you have?
Parts are specific to the cylinder series and capacity. Start with the letters at the front of the model number on your cylinder.
| Series | Cylinder type | Shop the cylinders |
|---|---|---|
| RC | General purpose, single-acting, spring return. Enerpac kept RC-TRIO model numbers, external dimensions and threads the same as earlier RC cylinders. | RC Series |
| RCH | Hollow plunger, for pulling and tensioning through the center hole | RCH Series |
| RSM and RCS | Low height, for tight clearances | Low Height Cylinders |
| RR | Double-acting, hydraulic return | RR Series |
| RAC and RAR | Aluminum, for lighter weight | Aluminum Cylinders |
| HCG, HCL and HCR | High tonnage, including lock nut models | High Tonnage Cylinders |
| RT | Multi-stage telescopic | Telescoping Cylinders |
| Simplex R Series | Simplex general purpose cylinders | Simplex Cylinders |
Keep your cylinders in service
- Stay inside the 80 percent rule. Enerpac states that rated load and stroke are maximum safe limits, and that good practice is to use only 80 percent of them.
- Use a gauge. Enerpac's catalog says to always use a gauge when lifting or pressing; it is your window into the system. See Hydraulic Pressure Gauges.
- Center the load. Side load is what the bearings and wear bands resist. Tilt saddles are made for load surfaces that are not level.
- Keep dirt out. Put dust caps on couplers whenever they are disconnected. Enerpac warns that dirt in the system can cause pump, cylinder and valve failure.
- Use Enerpac oil. See Enerpac Hydraulic Oil.
Hydraulic equipment should be serviced by a qualified hydraulic technician, as Enerpac's instructions state.
Finding the right part number
- Find the model number on your cylinder's label or body.
- Look up the repair parts sheet for that model; it lists every part by number and position.
- Match that part number to our listing. Some parts changed between production versions, so if anything does not match, call (704) 463-1070 before ordering.
