LX101 Enerpac Hand Pump Hydraulic Oil is not simply a smaller-version or alternate-color HF oil. Enerpac formulated LX Series oil specifically for manually operated hydraulic hand pumps, where fluid viscosity directly affects the amount of effort required to operate the pump handle.
Designed Specifically for Enerpac Hand Pumps
LX101 is an ISO VG 15 hydraulic oil, compared with ISO VG 32 for Enerpac HF power-pump oil. Enerpac states that the lower-viscosity LX formulation provides reduced handle effort compared with HF blue oil and offers good low-temperature performance. The oil also incorporates anti-sludge and anti-rust additives.
This distinction matters when choosing hydraulic fluid. A hand pump and a powered pump do not necessarily require the same oil characteristics. Enerpac specifically states that LX hand-pump oil is not for use in power pumps. If the equipment is electrically, pneumatically, battery or otherwise power driven, verify the specified fluid before assuming LX101 is appropriate.
Why the Correct Hydraulic Oil Matters
Enerpac notes that viscosity influences lubrication, hydraulic efficiency, heat generation and the pump’s ability to draw oil. Oil that is too viscous can contribute to sluggish operation and cavitation; oil that is too thin can reduce film strength and increase internal leakage. This is why Enerpac provides a dedicated hand-pump formulation rather than treating HF and LX fluids as interchangeable.
During maintenance, keep the oil and reservoir clean. Water, dirt and air contamination can contribute to corrosion, foaming, reduced lubrication and degraded hydraulic performance.
Use LX101 only where the applicable Enerpac hand-pump documentation specifies the appropriate hand-pump hydraulic oil.
